Unreflected Hawk

Went out to Dorena Lake this weekend and took pictures of covered bridges and the lake and such.

While walking out on the dam, we saw these hawks flying back and forth. By dint of repeated efforts, I caught the image at left, if you look at the full size image, you can see that the trees are reflected in the lake, the Hawk however is not a reflection, but flying over it.

I think flickr may have a bug, I just uploaded this and there are two copies, to make it even more fun, it's a screen grab of last nights exercise in computer assisted art, where flickr got 21 copies of the same picture. (Urk!)

Ubuntu Gnoppix

I've been using temporary operating systems for a few days, while I am in the process of updating my X server. After getting annoyed with Knoppix KDE desktop, I went ahead and fired up bittorrent and aimed it at Gnoppix. After an afternoon's using it, I am heavily impressed. It's smooth, and easy, desktop linux is here folks, and it works nicely. Comes with a full set of of user tools and a fine looking desktop with antialiased fonts and everything.

Only nit I have to pick is that the Mozilla Flash Plugin is not installed on the CD image. Could Someone at Macromedia please get their ass in gear and give these folks a call, you're missing an opportunity here.

Well, the new year has already gotten a kickstart, with a
call out to the colocation facility even before it was fully underway. I guess it's nice to be needed.
